Many people find the allure of a home business, but don't take the time to discover what you can actually do with one or that it is even possible. Each of these women's stories is unique yet all are inspiring - not just because they are women, but because they are successful women who had the courage to step out of what they knew, take a huge leap of faith and ended up being successful and helping others by providing services and jobs that improve people's lives.
A 2019 study from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition found that from 2000 to 2013, at least 135,000 Black and Hispanic residents were affected by gentrification negatively, including displacement, in big cities and small communities across the country.
Blair says it's important to not only
support black businesses, but also support the institutions that are working to address wider issues of unemployment, education and even technology gaps in poor communities, like the Black Chamber of Commerce. These businesses employed 975,052 people, an increase of 5.9 percent; their payrolls totaled $27.7 billion, an increase of 15.9 percent (not adjusted for inflation).
It is by no means an exhaustive list: We aren't including numerous high-profile celebrity entrepreneurs like Oprah Winfrey or Rihanna or the many successful black business owners who sell services to other corporations, like World Wide Technology's David Steward.
The reality is that black owned business listings are generally much more than a way to advertise that a firm or store is owned by a minority. It is in the area of financing that so many black business owners encounter their greatest obstacles. Without a background in marketing, any new entrepreneur can find it challenging to attract new customers and properly advertise the services and products the company provides.
